Attack of the Cicadas

The cicadas have been in full force since the weather has warmed up the past few days. It has been terrifying! Luckily the trees at my house are about a half a mile away, so I havnt really had to deal with them at home. The pre-school I work at is another story. It seems like the hoards are worse in older areas of town like the area I work at. The last hour of school is recess, and that is when things get scary! The kids I work with are obsessed with the cicadas- they LOVE them! They spend their recess gathering those nasty bugs and building forts for them. I cant tell you how many kids have come up to me to show me their handfulls of cicadas.. I try to keep my cool, because if I let on that I was afraid, I would have children relentlessly chasing me with them.

Last night I went to church with my best friend and they were swarming EVERYWHERE! It was the worst I have seen them. The walk from the car to our church building was intense, as we dodged and screamed and embarrassed ourselves. The shocking thing was that no one else seemed to be affected by them! My heart was racing the whole time. And when my pastor was closing his sermon, all I could think about was the walk back to the car, and how scared I was to go outside.

I wish they would go away and never come back.
