Right now all i can say is OUCH. And praise the Lord for Icy Hot.
Today some of my friends and I spent the day canoeing on the Harpeth River. I dont think any of us really knew what exactly we were getting ourselves into. Turns out the course we took was the 13 mile course- the one only "rebels" take according the Tip-A-Canoe workers (yeah, we didnt find out this information until after our long adventure was finally over).
My friend Andrea and I were in a canoe together. We went into the trip thinking we would be the absolute worst canoe-ers; that we would be way behind everyone else, and that our lunch would end up floating away due to several occurrences of accidental canoe tipping.
Well- we were both shocked to find out that we are actually pretty good at it! Who knew?!
We work well as a team- and got the rowing down to a science. Andrea and I actually finished first out of 7 canoes- we even passed up several other groups that had started before us! I think our desire to get off the river made us row faster! And also- our competative sides definately made an appearance today--Which is not pretty. Ha.
The first hour was fun and great- but then things just got painful and I think we went into survival mode, trying to stay positive, but feeling like we might be on that river for the rest of our lives. We had no watches and no sense of time, had no sense of where we were on the river, and had no idea where the end of our course was. It was an odd and desperate feeling.
Rowing is stinkin hard work- especially when the river has NO current! And especially when you are on a 13 mile course! Yikes.
It was a glorious sight when we finally saw the finishing point- HOURS later!
But the upside is that we learned some lessons.
Canoeing is great and fun, but only for about an hour and a half. We will certainly do it again, but will do a MUCH shorter course, take watches, and go when the river is higher and has more of a current.
It was a trip we will never forget- and the feeling of accomplishment was nice too... But probably not worth the amount of pain that Im feeling in my arms right now. Or even worse, the amount of pain that I will feel in the morning!
